Woodlands Infant & Nursery School, Lincoln

Woodlands Infant & Nursery School approached NBB with a unique requirement: to create three individual sheltered areas outside their classrooms, providing pupils and parents with year-round weather protection during drop-off and pick-up. The key objectives of the project were as follows:

Purpose Built Solutions: The school determined that three separate shelters were essential to meet their needs. Each shelter required custom design, including appropriately placed pipes and guttering to effectively manage rainwater runoff. This approach was crucial for ensuring that the shelters remained functional in all weather conditions, addressing the school’s specific requirements.

Safety and Protection: Given the young age of the children attending the school, safety was of the utmost importance. Therefore, the design needed to include padded post protectors, which would offer enhanced protection and help prevent injuries during playtimes. These features were essential to create a safe and secure environment, addressing the specific needs of the pupils and ensuring their well-being while they engaged in outdoor activities.

After carefully considering all the requirements set out by Woodlands Infant & Nursery School, NBB designed and installed three individual Winterbourne Wall-Attached Shelters with the following features:

Tailor Made: The proposed shelters were meticulously measured and customised to fit the specific site requirements. The shelter outside the Maple Classroom was designed with dimensions of L7550mm x D3000mm x H2300/2750mm. The solution for the Pine Classroom featured dimensions of L7550mm x D3000mm x H2300/2800mm, while the ideal shelter for the Holly Classroom was determined to be L7300mm x D3000mm x H2300/2800mm.

Project Management: Given the constraints of limited space and busy school terms, it was specified that the installation of the three shelters could only occur during school holidays. The NBB installation team successfully met a tight timeline and adhered to strict working hours to minimise noise disruption to the surrounding urban area.

Precision in Execution: Each shelter was meticulously crafted to fit the unique space outside its designated classroom. The design process included custom solutions for drainage as well as tailored padded post protector sizing and placement. These elements were individually designed and installed to ensure that every aspect of the shelters met the specific requirements of their locations, achieving a precise and functional fit for each designated area.

With a keen focus on detail and design, NBB successfully delivered three precisely tailored shelters for Woodlands Infant & Nursery School.

These shelters met the project brief perfectly and are set to provide sheltered and secure areas for children, parents, and staff for many years to come.
