Heatherbrook Primary Academy, Leicester

Heatherbrook Primary Academy contacted NBB Outdoors after recognising the need for a versatile covered area directly outside some of their classrooms, ensuring that pupils could utilise the space year-round. The primary objectives of the project were as follows:

Enhanced Versatility: The academy’s mission was to introduce a purpose-built shelter designed to ensure that outdoor lessons and playtime could proceed without interruption. This shelter would primarily serve to protect students from rain, wind, and extreme temperatures, enabling them to engage in consistent learning and recreational activities in a safe and comfortable environment.

Safety and Security: The required shelter would be positioned directly outside the academy’s early years classrooms, making it essential for the design to seamlessly integrate with the existing structures while also enhancing the safety and security provided by the pre-existing metal railing. Careful consideration was needed in the construction of the shelter to ensure that it not only complemented the current protective features but also reinforced the overall safety measures already in place.

Limitations and Restrictions: Given the residential area surrounding the academy, it was essential that the chosen installer strictly adhered to the predetermined installation timelines and operated within designated working hours. This adherence was vital to ensuring minimal disruption to the academy’s ongoing operations and maintaining a respectful relationship with the local community.

To meet Heatherbrook Primary Academy’s exacting standards and requirements, NBB Outdoors designed and installed a Bespoke Winterbourne Freestanding Shelter that comprised of the following key features:

Custom Design: After conducting a comprehensive site survey, it was concluded that a L18000mm x D5600mm sub-surfaced Freestanding Winterbourne Shelter would be the ideal solution to meet the academy’s needs. The proposed dimensions provided a spacious sheltered area while also ensuring that the existing levels of security were maintained.

Custom Colour Matching: During the consultation process, it was agreed that a custom RAL paint colour would be developed to match the academy’s unique turquoise branding. As a result, the final shelter was delivered in a striking Bespoke RAL Turquoise Blue, perfectly aligning with the academy’s distinctive identity.

Rainwater Management: To effectively manage rainwater, guttering was installed on one side of the shelter, with rainwater pipework positioned as close as possible to the pre-existing ACO drain. This setup was designed to ensure efficient water runoff and prevent water ingress, thereby safeguarding the newly created sheltered areas and keeping them dry, even during inclement weather conditions.

NBB Outdoors’ meticulous attention to detail, perfectly aligned with Heathbrook Primary Academy’s standards and brand identity. Our comprehensive approach made us the perfect partner to enhance Heatherbrook Primary Academy’s learning environment.
